Key Provisions

• Would create a competitive grant program for states, tribes, and local groups to address mountain pine beetle outbreaks on federally managed forests (National Forest System land).
• Would allow the Forest Service to make cooperative agreements with state and local governments and Indian Tribes to detect, treat, and reduce beetle infestations.
• Would prioritize grants for projects that protect city water supplies, critical infrastructure, and reduce wildfire risk in communities.
• Would offer expert advice on monitoring and managing mountain pine beetle infestations to groups with cooperative agreements.
• Would offer expert advice on workforce training, wood processing, and developing markets for beetle-killed wood to groups with cooperative agreements.
