To amend title 14, United States Code, to require the retention of certain enlisted members of the Coast Guard who have completed 18 or more, but less than 20, years of service, and for other purposes.

Key Provisions

• Would require the Coast Guard to keep Regular Coast Guard members on active duty if they are within two years of retirement and facing involuntary separation.
• Would prevent the Coast Guard from forcing out Reserve members in active status who have 18 to less than 20 years of service, unless the member agrees.
• Would allow eligible Reserve members with 18 to 19 years of service to stay up to three years or until they reach 20 years, whichever is sooner.
• Would allow eligible Reserve members with 19 to 20 years of service to stay up to two years or until they reach 20 years, whichever is sooner.
